History of SA Leeds
Sunday Assembly Leeds is one of the oldest Sunday Assemblies in the world (although that’s not saying much!). The founders were all non-religious people who wanted to provide a happy community for those like them, who did not feel comfortable going to religious services but wanted to socialise and meet on a regular basis. We were inspired by the work of Sanderson Jones and Pippa Evans, whose enthusiasm and passion drove the creation of dozens of Assemblies around the world.
Sunday Assembly Leeds was born in a pub in the centre of Leeds where a few people got around a table with a few drinks and started to plan. That plan turned into a fully-fledged Assembly which debuted in October 2013, complete with karaoke, motivational speeches, and a whole pile of cake! We’ve gone from strength to strength ever since, with a core community of volunteers and attendees who have become great friends. We welcome everybody to attend, and we hope to see you soon.
